Niña Bonita

I don't like a lot of popular Spanish music, but I've always liked this song. I think it's super catchy. Of course I don't know the majority of the words so I just make them up.

Check it out.

One of my students from last year made this for me!

Using a Coldplay song was almost as awesome as including a picture of me drinking wine and a picture of me wearing a crab hat.

Totally made my day!

Tiles and Trash

So I think I've mentioned it before, but in case I haven't, I'm currently living across the street from a lake. A pretty large one actually.

Lago Villarrica

Anyway, seeing how it's across the street from the house, we go there from time to time to take a walk or relax in the sun. On one of our first trips over there we noticed bits of broken tile scattered along the sand. So we decided to start collecting them for some future undecided project. Unfortunately, while searching for broken tiles you also come across a large amount of garbage. Candy wrappers, beer cans, plastic bags, you name it, it's there. I once spotted a makeup compact, a lonely flip flop and a spoon (the non-disposable kind). So we decided to start collecting them as well. However these items are not being saved for a rainy day activity of arts and crafts. They're getting thrown away. In an actual trash can...not on the beach.

You can't see the trash in this picture, but I promise you, it's there.

Why go through the trouble of collecting your trash only to then leave it in a tree?

Last time I checked a tree and a trash can are not the same thing.

Here's a sort of non-broken tile. This one is actually much larger than it looks in the picture. I keep forgetting the sledge hammer to break it into smaller pieces.

Our collection of broken tiles.

The sad reality is that I'm sure we'll finish collecting all the tiles before we ever finish collecting all the trash.

After Ever After

This guy is insanely talented. And funny. And he goes by the name Paint which I find amusing. Here is his song about what happened after the end of various Disney movies.

This picture has been circulating all over Facebook. It proves two things:

1. One small typo can really change the meaning of a headline.
2. Proofread your work, people. Especially if say, you're in charge of writing the headlines for the national news.

Google Translate should work well enough for those of you non-Spanish speakers.

Ho Hey

Ho Hey by the Lumineers.

Getting to listen to this song on my drive into work each morning makes up for the fact that I have to wake up at 6:30.

Valdivia: Part Two

So back in February my mom and I drove to Valdivia for the day. After a stop in the riverside market and a quick lunch, we headed out on a boat tour. The boats departed right in front of Feria Fluvial. While we waited for the boat to leave we watched the birds and sea lions feast on scraps of fish from the market.

Chilean Condors!
The boat tour lasted about an hour. I'm not sure exactly which rivers we went down but it was probably the Calle-Calle and the Valdivia. We sat out on the front deck and I worked on my sunburn while we passed by some incredibly beautiful scenery.

The merging of two rivers.

Live and Die

It's Sunday! Time for some music:

Here's Live and Die by the Avett Brothers. Obsessed. But I tend to say that about all the music I listen to.
